Stay far away from Kanmashi! Take a tip from someone who snored and slept through this travesty. Director V.M.Vinu has let the audience down very badly, by churning out a story that is as old as the hills.
Nambiar(Nedumudi Venu) is a rich and aristocratic businessman and when his only son Unni gets married to a girl from another religion he does not accept him. Unni and his wife go away to Bombay where both are killed in a car accident. Before dying Unni gives his chain to his wifes nephew Vishnu (Vineeth Kumar) to hand it over to his proud father. Nambiar who is ignorant about his sons death, hates him even after many years. One day Vishnu comes to the town in search of Nambiar and joins his factory as an employee. Sethulakshmi (Nitya Das) is the only daughter of the accountant in Nambiars factory. She is a naughty girl who loves to play pranks on everybody with her gang of small children. Everybody calls her Kanmashi and after a few scenes Vishnu falls in love with her. Nambiar after seeing his sons chain forgets all the past and mistakes Vishnu to be his grandson. He even fixes Vishnus marriage to his cousin Varsha. How Nambiar comes to know the truth about Vishnus identity and finally gets him married to Kanmashi forms the rest of the story.
The story is outdated and the major drawback of the film is the hero Vineeth Kumar who is a total letdown. Nitya Das has no screen presence and she is also disappointing. Only Nedumudi Venu and Kalabhavan Mani are the only saving grace of this otherwise utterly lamebrain film. On the whole the film is old wine in an old bottle.
Verdict: ** 1/2.
